For the last 5 years Tom has been working closely with his local foodbank to provide support, particularly during the Christmas period.
The original goal was to ensure a small number of children were able to open a gift on Christmas morning. What started off as a few families quickly grew and Tom became a figurative “Santa Claus”, always making sure the shortfall from local toy drives was covered.
As it stands today Tom has purchased a main gift for over 150 children, while also assisting the foodbank in the delivery of their Christmas parcels every year.
Tom’s aspiration to help more people, along with the loving support of his partner and close friends, resulted in Halpin Hand being founded in late 2023.
Our next step is extend this process to further afield, while also adapting what support we can give. This may still include the purchase of toys for children, but extending the support for parents and the wider family. This will involve, but not limited to, the purchase of appliances for families in need, the supply of clothing or equipment for school, and the donation of learning material or local training course fees.
The Middlewich & District Foodbank published a news article on our founder Tom back in 2021, this can be found here. It provides more detail into the work he did and the reasons behind doing it. Also refer to About Us for more information.
